Choosing the Right Access Equipment

What types of equipment can I hire?

Our range includes scissor lifts, articulated and telescopic boom lifts, low-level access equipment and telehandlers. We offer electric, diesel and hybrid options for different working environments, subject to availability.

What is the difference between a scissor lift, a cherry picker and a telehandler?

A scissor lift raises its platform vertically and is often suitable for work directly above the machine.

A cherry picker, also called a boom lift, provides access at height with outreach. Depending on the model, it can reach over or around obstacles.

A telehandler is primarily designed to lift and position materials using approved attachments. The right choice depends on your task, working area and load requirements.

How do I know which machine I need?

Tell us the height you need to reach, whether you need outreach, what the ground is like and whether the work is indoors or outdoors. Access restrictions, platform capacity and the number of people working from the platform also matter.

If you are unsure, we offer free site surveys to help identify suitable equipment.

What is the difference between working height and platform height?

Platform height is the height of the platform floor above the ground. Working height describes the approximate height an operator can reach while standing on the platform.

Check which measurement is shown when comparing machines. Our hire team can help you select equipment with sufficient height and outreach for your task.

Do you hire equipment for indoor work?

Yes. We offer electric access equipment suitable for many indoor applications. Selection depends on doorway widths, floor loading, turning space, working height and any restrictions at your premises.

Tell us if you need non-marking tyres or have sensitive floor finishes.

Do you hire rough-terrain equipment for outdoor work?

Yes. We offer machines designed for suitable outdoor and rough-terrain applications. Ground conditions, gradients, access routes and operating limits must be assessed before choosing a machine.

A rough-terrain machine is not suitable for every surface or slope.

Can an access platform fit through a doorway or travel in a goods lift?

Some compact machines can pass through restricted entrances. We need to check the machine’s dimensions and weight against the doorway, route and lift capacity.

Please provide clear opening measurements and any floor or lift loading limits before booking.

How much weight can an access platform carry?

Capacity varies by model and configuration. The total load includes people, tools and materials.

Check the machine’s specification and operating instructions, and tell us your expected load so we can recommend suitable equipment.

Can I hire telehandler attachments?

We offer telehandler attachments, subject to availability and compatibility with the machine. Tell us what you need to lift or move so we can confirm a suitable combination.

Personnel lifting requires a separate assessment; please discuss this with us rather than assuming a basket can be used.

Booking, Prices and Delivery

How much does it cost to hire a scissor lift, cherry picker or telehandler?

The price depends on the machine, hire duration, delivery location and any additional requirements.

For an accurate quotation, send us your site postcode, required dates and a description of the job. We will confirm the hire rate, transport charges and applicable additional costs.

Can I hire equipment for a day, a week or longer?

Yes. We offer daily and weekly hire, with longer-term arrangements available. The minimum hire period depends on the equipment; one-day hire is available on suitable machines.

Can you arrange short-notice or same-day hire?

We can sometimes arrange same-day delivery, depending on machine availability, transport capacity, your location and completion of the necessary account or payment arrangements.

Call our hire team as early as possible to check availability.

Do you deliver and collect the equipment?

Yes. We arrange delivery and collection. Transport charges depend on the machine, location and delivery requirements and will be confirmed when we quote.

Please tell us about restricted access, site booking systems or particular delivery times before confirming your order.

What information do you need before delivery?

Please provide the full site address and postcode, a site contact and telephone number, delivery instructions and any access restrictions.

Let us know about narrow entrances, weight restrictions, difficult ground conditions or site induction requirements so we can plan the delivery.

Do you offer trade accounts?

Yes. Trade credit accounts are subject to approval and credit checks. Our team will provide an account application and explain the information required.

Will I need identification, a deposit or advance payment?

Requirements depend on your account status and the hire arrangements. We will confirm the identification, payment and any deposit requirements before the booking is finalised.

Do your hire prices include VAT?

Hire quotations are normally shown excluding VAT, with VAT added at the applicable rate. Your quotation will set out the charges.

Can I change or cancel a booking?

Please contact us as soon as your plans change. Amendments depend on availability, and cancellation charges may apply under the relevant hire terms or training booking conditions.

How do I extend or end my hire?

To extend your hire, contact our hire team before the agreed end date so we can confirm availability.

When you have finished with the equipment, contact us to arrange off-hire and collection. Please follow the off-hire procedure in your agreement rather than assuming the booking end date automatically ends the charges.

Operator Training and Safe Use

Do I need training to operate a scissor lift or cherry picker?

Operators need appropriate training and competence for the category of equipment they use. An IPAF PAL Card is a widely recognised way of demonstrating operator training.

Operators also need familiarisation with the particular machine. Your employer or site may have additional requirements.

Can I arrange hire if I will not be operating the machine?

Yes, you can arrange hire on behalf of your business or a trained operator. However, anyone who operates the equipment must meet the relevant training, competence and familiarisation requirements.

If you need training before the hire starts, we can help arrange it.

Do you provide familiarisation on delivery?

We provide machine familiarisation for the nominated trained operator as part of the delivery arrangements. This covers the particular machine’s controls, features and relevant operating information.

Familiarisation does not replace operator training. Please ensure the appropriate person is available at handover.

Can access equipment be used in wind, rain or on uneven ground?

Safe operating conditions depend on the machine, manufacturer’s instructions and site assessment. Wind limits, ground bearing capacity, gradients and weather conditions must all be considered.

Some machines are rated for indoor use only. Never assume that all equipment has the same operating limits.

Are your machines inspected and examined?

Our hire equipment is maintained and supplied with the relevant inspection and thorough examination documentation, including LOLER documentation where applicable.

Operators must still complete the required pre-use checks and report any defects before using the machine.

Insurance, Damage and Support

Is insurance included in the hire price?

Insurance is not included in the standard hire rate. Please speak to us about the cover required under your hire agreement and whether our damage waiver option is appropriate.

A damage waiver is subject to its own terms, limits and exclusions and should not be assumed to cover every loss.

Who is responsible for damage during hire?

Your responsibilities are set out in the hire agreement, together with any applicable insurance or damage waiver terms.

Please report damage promptly and provide details of what happened. If damage could affect safe operation, stop using the machine.

What should I do if a machine breaks down?

Stop using the machine if it is unsafe and contact our service team promptly. Give us the machine identification, site location, contact details and a description of the fault.

We will assess the problem and arrange appropriate support. Please do not attempt unauthorised repairs.

What are the fuel and charging arrangements?

These depend on the machine and your hire agreement. We will explain the applicable fuel arrangements, return requirements and any charges when you book.

For electric equipment, please ensure a suitable charging supply is available and follow the charging instructions provided.

Training Courses and Bookings

What training courses do you offer?

We offer IPAF powered access training, PASMA access tower training and NPORS telehandler training.

Contact our training team with the equipment you use, your experience and any customer or site requirements so we can recommend the appropriate course.

What is the difference between IPAF, PASMA and telehandler training?

IPAF training covers powered access equipment, including relevant categories of scissor lifts and boom lifts.

PASMA training covers access towers, with different courses for different tower types and responsibilities.

Telehandler training covers the safe operation of telescopic handlers for the relevant equipment category and work activities.

Can you train a group at our premises?

Yes. We can arrange private group courses at suitable customer premises, subject to the course requirements, facilities, equipment and instructor availability.

Our training team will explain what is needed before confirming an on-site course.

Do you offer group booking discounts?

Discounts may be available for multiple delegates or combined hire and training requirements. Tell us how many people need training and which courses you require, and we will prepare a quotation.

Do I need previous experience?

Many courses are suitable for beginners, while others require existing qualifications or experience. Tell us your experience when booking so we can confirm eligibility and allow sufficient training time.

What should I bring to my training course?

Your booking confirmation will list the requirements for your course. These normally include photo identification, suitable clothing, safety footwear and the specified personal protective equipment.

Check your joining instructions before attending, as requirements vary between courses.

Is there a minimum age for training?

Age and eligibility requirements depend on the course. Please provide the delegate’s age when booking if they are under 18 so we can confirm suitability and any restrictions.

IPAF Training

What are IPAF 3a and 3b categories?

IPAF 3a covers mobile vertical platforms, including many scissor lifts and vertical mast machines.

IPAF 3b covers mobile boom platforms, including many self-propelled articulated and telescopic boom lifts.

Your qualification must cover the category you intend to operate.

Which IPAF courses can I book?

Contact us for availability of operator training in categories such as 3a, 3b, 1a and 1b, together with harness courses, MEWPs for Managers and PAL+.

We will help identify the course and category appropriate to your role and equipment.

How long does an IPAF course take?

Duration depends on the categories, course format and delegate’s experience. Training includes theory, practical instruction and assessment.

Where an eLearning option is available, the theory is completed separately before attending for the practical elements. We will confirm the full time commitment when booking.

What is an IPAF PAL Card, and how long does it last?

The Powered Access Licence, or PAL Card, records the equipment categories in which you have successfully completed IPAF training and assessment.

In the UK, it is normally valid for five years and can be accessed digitally through IPAF’s ePAL app.

How do I renew my IPAF PAL Card?

Contact us before your card expires. The appropriate renewal route depends on your existing qualification, expiry date and recorded operating experience.

We will check your circumstances and explain whether you qualify for renewal training or need a full operator course.

What happens if I do not pass an assessment?

We will explain which element needs further work and the options for additional training or reassessment. Any further attendance requirements and charges will be confirmed with you.

Do I need separate training for every machine?

Training covers equipment categories rather than every individual make and model. However, you also need familiarisation with the particular machine you will use.

PASMA Training

What is PASMA training?

PASMA training develops the knowledge and practical skills needed for the safe use of access towers. Depending on the course, it covers activities such as assembly, alteration, moving, inspection and dismantling.

Which PASMA courses do you offer?

We offer Towers for Users and PASMA Combined courses. Our team can explain the difference and help you choose the course that matches your equipment and duties.

How long does PASMA training take?

Towers for Users is normally a one-day course combining theory, practical training and assessments. We will confirm the timetable and requirements for your chosen course when booking.

How long is a PASMA qualification valid?

A PASMA Towers for Users qualification is normally valid for five years in the UK. Contact our training team before expiry to arrange the appropriate course to renew your qualification.

Can PASMA training take place at our site?

Yes, subject to suitable facilities, sufficient practical space and the correct tower equipment. We will confirm the requirements before accepting an on-site booking.

Telehandler Training

What does telehandler training cover?

Training covers the safe operation of the relevant telescopic handler, including pre-use checks, machine controls, stability, load charts, load handling and operating precautions.

The course and assessment must match the equipment and tasks involved.

How long does a telehandler course take?

Duration depends on previous experience, the course route and the training required. Novices generally need more training than experienced operators.

We will assess your requirements and confirm the appropriate course length before booking.

What qualification will I receive?

Successful candidates receive the relevant NPORS certification or operator card for the route booked.

Please tell us if you need a card bearing the CSCS logo or must meet particular construction site requirements, so we can confirm the correct route.

How long is an NPORS card valid?

Validity depends on the card type and route. Please check the expiry date on your card or ask our training team to explain the certification and renewal requirements for your booking.

After Your Course

When will I receive my training card or certificate?

Cards and certificates are issued after successful completion and processing of the course results. The format and timescale depend on the awarding organisation and course.

If you need evidence of training for a particular start date, please tell us before booking.

What if I lose my card or need to verify a qualification?

Contact our training team for help accessing your digital record or arranging a replacement.

Qualifications should be verified through the relevant awarding organisation’s official checking service.

Can I book equipment hire and training together?

Yes. We can coordinate training and equipment hire so your team is prepared before the work starts. Tell us your project dates, location and equipment requirements when enquiring.
