No, this is not an announcement of a return to the striking green and yellow away shirt of 1992-94 that saw Andrei Kanchelskis run amok down the right wing, providing ammunition for the inimitable Eric Cantona, while Roy Keane berated his teammates as only Roy could for this, that or the other! Instead, Eagle Platforms are delighted to be able to offer further insight into our working relationship with Manchester United Football Club and their renovation of Old Trafford prior to the new season, which is about to get underway as we write.

As part of our supply contract for the refurbishments at the theatre of dreams we have supplied Haulotte access platforms that benefit from the very latest carbon capture technology – a fitting development for a forward looking club looking to ensure they play their part, as we all should, in the light of the climate emergency. The Manchester club had incredibly strict environmental restrictions to the work on site. The contractors on site at Old Trafford are quoted as saying, “we are about to start new projects and have already placed the new business with Eagle Platforms, on the back of the successful, and on time completion of work at Old Trafford!”

The nature of the work at Old Trafford, however, made it imperative to have access to the extra power the diesel machines offer, although we supplied both electric and diesel models. Thankfully the ever-innovative Haulotte have managed to make their Stage V low emission booms more environmentally friendly in this way.

Eagle Platforms jumped on this development with a major order of over £3m worth of machines with Haulotte, adding electric, hybrid and the aforementioned new, cleaner diesel units to our ever-expanding fleet of high quality access platforms. There are so many benefits to our customers involved in changing to these more eco-friendly machines and there is no loss of capacity or quality compared to the older diesel machines. Step forward Dan Stewart MD of Eagle Platforms. The new machines are… “less expensive on fuel consumption, less down time for re-fuelling, zero carbon emission into the close working environment, means a more comfortable operator experience”.

Our customers have responded to these new, innovative machines and after we have actively promoted them to our clients, demand has shot through the roof, proving the appetite for embracing an environmentally friendly profile where available. Sales Manager Adam Nicholson put it like this, “Early scepticism, was quickly overcome from clients, worried about performance vs old designed diesel engines. No such issues. Now customers reject the old models preferring these!”

Let’s sign off with a bit more information about the machines used at Old Trafford and their unique benefits.

  • The Haulotte HA32 (32m) & HA41 (41m) RTJ Pro Model are fitted with Stage V Engines, with Carbon Capture technology, offering a clean diesel experience.
  • The HS18 Pro is an 18m Electric RT Scissor, and the SIGMA 16 Pro & HA20 LE Pro are 16m & 20m articulating electric booms.

All yield considerably reduced noise pollution and result in a rapid, smoother sign-off as they get past red-tape (COSHH/indoor use/fumes etc.) more easily.
